Touch Assignment- Selfless Love

Image
Selfless Love, 8x10inches, copy paper+pen+copic markers “The first emotional comfort, touching and being touched by our mother, remains the ultimate memory of selfless love, which stays with us life long” (Ackerman, The Natural History of the Senses, p.79). The adoration of touch, the need for touch, is deeply rooted in our hearts from a young age. My heart grows with each thought of my lovely mother, for I know selfless love; it is Stacie. This artwork is inspired by the love I have for my earthly creator (as opposed to the heavenly one). She gives her children the world, unconditionally and selflessly.

Touch Assignment- Subconscious Rules

Image
Subconscious Rules, 6x9 ½ inches, pens on cardstock "Despite the fact that we're territorial creatures who move through the world like small principalities, contact warms us even without our knowing it. It probably reminds us of that time, long before deadlines and banks, when our mothers cradled us and we were enthralled and felt perfectly lovable. Even touch so subtle as to be overlooked doesn't go unnoticed by the subterranean mind" (Ackerman, The Natural History of the Senses, p.123).  We are naturally drawn to each other and crave to feel love. Often times our conscious minds are unaware that the love we desire is fulfilling a part of us that remembers what it felt like to be safe in our mother's arms. Our subconscious mind doesn't forget. This goddess of love represents the power of our subconscious mind and our capacity for loving awareness.
