Personal Project

Personal Project Flesh Suits , crochet, 42' x 53'  Detail image In process images: Artist Statement:      This artwork entitled Flesh Suits is inspired by my love for touch and representing human form. The sensation of touch is a gift and one that brings comfort and pleasure. I chose to use yarn similar to human skin tones to convey the notion of flesh but in a nonrepresentational way. The piece is not a human shape but a unique and intuitive arrangement of yarn crocheted in the tones of skin. By using the material of yarn, it becomes an experience of the softness of touch. The viewer can physically feel and enjoy the sensation that the yarn brings to their senses which is similar to the comfort of touch.

My intent was to visually communicate the different expressions through hair. I wanted to focus on the many hair colors of women-yellow, red, purple, green, and black- as a form of self-expression. I decided to include 5 women and repeat the pattern because it felt like a good number to stop at without it being too chaotic. I felt the work was lacking some flare, ...

My intent was to visually communicate a well-known message and the title of one of his books, "Be Here Now." I wanted the focus to be on the text so I cut out big capital letters. For the banner itself, I decided on long horizontal strips of fabric that I sewed together. I chose textiles that reminded me of nature and colors I...
