Figurative Bust Sculptures

Image
Love Always Wins           Air-dry clay, wood, paint Base: 11" x 10"        Busts: 3" x 2" x 3.5" Artist's Statement:  This pair of sculptures reflects the concept that love will always overcome fear. This is represented by the ocean wave that will inevitably put out the flames of hate. The bust on the left is seen with hearts in her hair and a heart mouth that speaks only kindness. An expressive third eye is shining from her forehead to represent her open mind to the Divine. The bust on the right is seen with a head of snake hairs and a snake tongue that curses the world with her words. Devil horns rest on her forehead to emphasize her evil while a blindfold causes the ignorance of her unkindness.  Research: This article gets into the ways we may unknowingly fall into fear-based mindsets. https://design.org/love-vs-fear/ This article talks about how there are only two emotions; love or fear. https://www.awakin.org/v2/read/view.php...

Gregor's Room

Image
Gregor's Room A visual response to the short story The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka Printer paper, India Ink 7.5'' x 8.5'' x 5'' Artist's Statement:  The sculpture collection reflects my perception of the short story The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. While reading this tale of grief and acceptance, I pictured a looming darkness that did not leave Gregor’s room. The way he lived his life, before becoming a cockroach, with conformity and fear created a prison within his mind that I expressed through form. The colors included were rich blacks, muddy browns, moldy greens, and bloody reds. The rough, wrinkly texture of the objects encompass the mess he creates while adjusting to his new massive bug life. The round bed and boxspring insinuates his bug shape while the clock alludes to Gregor and the warped sense of time once his life turns upside down. The rug full of rotten apples and dark creatures immerses the viewer in a frightening textural experience. Al...

Dinner and A Movie

Image
Adventure of Me 2 Be Free Various pieces of foliage are displayed at the dinner table, including a floral installation elegantly floating atop the surface of a watermelon bowl. A Kui Nut Lei and a stick of sage are gently placed so that the meal be blessed before consuming. Along with a hand-carved wooden bowl, chopstix for the food, and a tiki cup for coconut water.  Inspired by the movie Moana released in 2016 This piece explores the satisfaction one experiences when following the true calling in their heart. This gut feeling comes from Source and our inner knowing. A guiding system that is not influenced by what others want for us; it comes from within. This image is filled with sacred materials that allow one to drop into the silence, within each of us, so that we can clear the channel to allow deep insight. The greenery is grown from Mama Earth and truly reflects the divinity within each of us. By tuning in, it becomes clear that we have the freedom to choose our path.
